Recovering your password when you forget it is a big pain in the butt. So I thought I would just write up a quick tutorial to walk you through the process. This one if for Gmail specifically, but the process is very similar to other email services.
- open your Browser and go to www.Gmail.com
click on your email account to get to the login screen.
At the bottom left of the screen is the link if you have forgotten your password. Click it
- if you entered a recovery email when you setup your Gmail account Google will send you a code, enter it at this screen and click Next. You can now change your password.
Once you change your password and click Save Password. Google will log you back into Gmail. Remember to store your passwords in a password vault like BitWarden or any others out there. I have some information on password vaults on my home page if you want to check that out.
- If you did not setup a Recovery email when setting up your Gmail account you will have to click on the Try another way link at this screen
Google will now Call or text the cell phone number you entered when you setup Gmail.Click on Text to receive your verification code.
enter the code Google sent you and click Next.
- Now you can pick a new password and continue Like in step 2 of this tutorial.
Once you change your password and click Save Password. Google will log you back into Gmail. Remember to store your passwords in a password vault like BitWarden or any others out there. I have some information on password vaults on my home page if you want to check that out.
- At this point you should be back in your Gmail account.
